Utah State:
Growing with RMS

Utah State University Housing and Residence Life located in Logan, Utah, is the oldest client of RMS having been a user since 1997. Over the past 13 years RMS has recorded information on over 290,000 students, parents, and conference guests. Currently at USU we have about 3,600 beds housing single, graduate and family students.

Through the years, we have seen a lot of changes in the development of the RMS software. In 1997 when we first started using RMS it was on a Microsoft Access II platform which was not quite adequate to handle the volume of information that USU required. However, within a short period of time the database was upgraded to SQL platform which has done a great job of handling our needs ever since. As RMS has grown in functionality we have been able to utilize the software to improve and enhance our daily business operations. Currently we are using the student web to process new applications for single and graduate students. The ability to have the application data go directly into RMS has saved many hours of data entry. Also, up until Fall 2007 we processed all housing payments internally and tracked the accounts receivable balances for each student and conference group. However, after attending an information session presented by the University of North Florida at the RMS Users Conference in March 2007, and with the help of RMS and the USU Registrars Office we began the process of transmitting accounts receivable data into Banner. This interface process has saved thousands of dollars in labor and credit card fees over the past two years. It has also been a benefit to our residents as they can see all their financial obligations to the University in one location as data is transmitted from RMS into Banner every 20 minutes.

One of the things we have appreciated the most throughout the years is the wonderful staff at RMS. They have always provided us with timely client support and have been more than willing to explore solutions to meet our changing needs. We look forward to many more years in partnering with RMS to meet the needs of our housing residents.
