Employee spurns Hollywood for computer geekdom Chris Denning
Quality Assurance
Hi, I’m Chris. I am the newest addition to the QA department here at RMS. I was born here in Raleigh, North Carolina, and moved to northern Virginia when I was three. In 2000, my family moved back to NC.
After high school, I went to UNC-Greensboro to study film production. But towards the end of my second semester I decided a career in film was not the path I was supposed to be on. I opted to take a break from school, work full time, and try to reevaluate my career goals.
During the interim, I worked in food service and consumer electronics sales. In early 2008, I heard about a position opening at RMS from another employee here and jumped on the opportunity. I have always had a strong interest in working with computers and had taken computer science and networking classes through high school, and I have strong analytical and reasoning skills, making QA at RMS a good fit for me. I enjoy figuring out the why behind issues as much as finding the issues themselves.
Since I’ve worked at RMS, I finally feel like I am in the right place. Everyone has been extremely welcoming, and RMS feels more like a big family than just a company.
Right now I am taking classes part time to continue my education while I work at RMS. I spend a lot of my free time producing electronic music—an interest I’ve had for about four years. I hope to eventually (if nothing else, as a hobby) produce music for independent film soundtracks. I’d like to stay with RMS for a long time, because the work environment and challenges of working in the computer software industry are a good fit for me.
