Founders’ Day, March 17, 2005, thousands of people gathered in front of
Carrington Hall for a university-wide photograph to replicate a 1906

Spring Admits. Current Students. Fall Admits.
These are just 3 of the 22 category codes we use as we direct our
students to the Student Web.
We have used RMS a little over a year now. We use the Student Web and
the Conference Module (we will use the Conference Module for the first
time in the summer 2009). Also, our University is just about finished
with a conversion from a Legacy environment to Banner.
We try to make the resident’s experience on the web as pleasant as
possible. We do this for several reasons: it’s their preferred method
of doing business and it is less information we have to key in! We have
made several Camtasia videos for the students to view at various stages
of the web process. Camtasia is a product from TechSmith
(http://www.techsmith.com/). It allows you to create videos of the
process that the user can stop and play as they are actually in the
process. Some of the videos we use are: How to Submit an Application,
How to Make Changes to an Existing Application, Check My Status, How to
Make a Room Change Request, etc.
We feel that these videos are well received and cut down on some of the
phone and e-mail traffic we would normally receive in the office. For
example, over the summer the video Check My Status was viewed 2,255
times during May and August.
We have also made several handouts for students to use as well. We
borrowed the concept from our colleagues at Winthrop University. We
have made two handouts for incoming students to use to aid them in the
application process and then two handouts for our current students to
use for room retention and general room selection. You can go to our
sign on page and view some videos and a handout:

This year we were bold and decided to take a move out of Texas Tech’s
playbook and move up our reapplication process so that our incoming
students could self assign themselves in January. Our current students
completed the reapplication process in early December instead of the
traditional February/March timeframe. We had a good response with over
1400 students reapplying for the 09-10 academic year.
RMS offered us the flexibility to deliver all of this to our students!
